Friendship ends in bloodshed and jail time

What started as an argument ended in a knife attack

The friendship between Bhekuyise Vincent Ngubane and another man will never be the same again. Ngubane was recently sentenced for attacking and stabbing the man, who was reportedly a close friend.

According to police, they were at Ngubane’s place of residence when the attack happened.

“Ngubane suddenly attacked the victim in a fit of rage, accusing him of stealing a large sum of cash. He stabbed him in the neck with a knife. The victim tried to ward off the attack and escaped through an open window, but soon found his attacker chasing him with a bush knife,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

The victim sustained serious injuries and lost consciousness. He later woke up in an ambulance and provided police with a statement.

The Estcourt detective tracing team arrested Ngubane two weeks later.

He made several appearances in the Estcourt Regional Court until the case was wrapped up last month.

He was sentenced to six years’ direct imprisonment for the attack on his friend.
