SANBS ‘rewards’ frequent blood donors

A token of appreciation was presented to each donor

Blood donations may seem trivial to some, but in essence, this is one of the most priceless gifts one person can give to another – the gift of life. On Saturday afternoon, donor relations practitioner Shavani Sewpaul held a milestone function for local blood donors. A token of appreciation was presented to each donor in the form of a medal for 50, 75, 100, 125, 175 and 225 units of blood. Herman Jordaan has donated 225 units, which made him the ‘star of the day’. In total, this group of donors has donated 2900 units of blood and saved approximately 8700 lives due to their selflessness.

Awards were presented to the following donors:
50 units of blood – Marlene van der Schyff, Musa Mkhawanazi, Amanda Vergottini, Debbie Bekker, Adéle Richter and Johannes Wessels.
75 units – Sean Dunn, Riaan Leeuwner, Vusumuzi Sithole and Larisse Visser.
100 units – Elsie Coertse, Tersia Crouch, Antoinette Potgieter and Chris van Eck.
125 units – Louis le Roux.
150 units – Frans van Niekerk.
175 units – Barend van Eck.
225 units – Herman Jordaan.

The SANBS will be in town on the following dates:
September 19 at Vryheid District Hospital; and
