290 Sexual related offenders convicted and sentenced to life terms

The accused have been convicted by various courts in the province after they were found guilty of these sexual related offences.

Various Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units in KwaZulu-Natal have a reason to celebrate results achieved during their investigation of various sexual related offences in KwaZulu-Natal.

From September 1 to September 30, the members arrested 290 accused for various cases including kidnapping, assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, contravening of Protection Order, attempted rape, child abuse, child neglect, child abandonment, statutory rape cases in the province.

The accused have been convicted by various courts in the province after they were found guilty of these sexual related offences.

47 convictions secured and 14 life imprisonments were handed down to convicted accused. It is gladly acknowledged that maximum sentences were handed down in most cases and that justice was delivered to the victims.

These successful convictions are the result of the dedication and capability of the different FCS Units that effectively investigated crimes involving vulnerable women and children in the province.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded these successes with a sense of accomplishment and expressed her confidence in the judicial system which has meted out befitting sentences to these rapists.

“The sentences handed down will send a clear message to like-minded would-be offenders that the police will trace, arrest and make sure that they present thorough investigated dockets to courts for prosecution. KwaZulu-Natal police will endeavour with all its resources to prevent crimes against women and children and make the province a safer place for everyone,” she said.
