Women urged to go for cancer screening

Cervical cancer can often be prevented by having regular screenings

Submitted by Zandile Gamede (Estcourt Hospital PRO)

August is Women’s Month and a lot is discussed regarding their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

When we talk of women’s health, cervical cancer often comes to the fore.

This is preventative, but women still die from cervical cancer-related complications due to the low uptake of cervical cancer screening services.

Cervical cancer screening services are provided in all clinics and women, especially those of reproductive age, are encouraged to take advantage of this service.

The screening procedure is not painful and can detect treatable pre-cancerous lesions before they progress into cancer.

It is important to return for your Pap smear results and go for treatment if there is any abnormality.
