Distraught mother gives youth hope

Newcastle resident, Sylvia Mostert believes she can help get substance addicts 'clean'.

Newcastle resident, Sylvia Mostert has noticed the number of substance abusers in the community growing on a daily basis. She realised that often, those suffering from addictions have no place to turn…

After speaking with friends and family in Johannesburg, Sylvia was given the opportunity to help those in her area. Through the necessary assistance, she believes it can be their second chance at life.

A friend of mine recently contacted me and said I needed to gather 10 addicts, and they would help rehabilitate them. So I gathered 10 young men, counselled them at my home and began the necessary procedures.”

Sylvia is now turning to her community for aid in preparing these men for rehabilitation. She explained that these people are mostly unemployed.

The following necessities are needed:

  • Soaps, shampoos, deodorants, toothbrushes, toothpastes, body washes and lotions
  • Morvite, Maltabella or instant oats porridge
  • Vests (small and medium), trunks (Jockeys – small and medium) and pyjamas (small and medium)
  • Tekkies (sizes 7 and 10)
  • Jeans (sizes 30 and 32)
  • T-shirts (small and medium)
  • Tracksuits (medium and large)
  • Travel bags
  • Bath towels and face cloths.

We have arranged for a minibus to transport them to the facility, but we must cover the cost of the fuel ourselves. As a result, any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated.”
