Mareli needs sponsorship for hearing aid implant

Her mother now pleads with the community of Dundee to help by, as said above, just donating R1 per person.

Born deaf, Mareli Maré  (25) is completely dependent on her cochlear implant and is seeking sponsorship to upgrade it.
This new hearing aid device will cost R162,306 and the Mare family is asking the community of Dundee to donate R1 each.
“If we can reach enough people, each donating R1, my daughter’s quality of life will be greatly improved,” said her mother, Yolande Mare.
The new hearing aid implant is manufactured in Australia and will be transported to South Africa.
Yolande and her late father, Piet Maré, were able to raise funds for her when she was 20 months old for a cochlear implant.
“Her current implant uses three batteries which last only three days and we go through two boxes a month,” explained Yolande.
Mareli says she was able to go to a mainstream school because of the implant, but without it, she is completely deaf in both ears.
“I am hearing-impaired and only able to hear when I have my implant on. Upgrading to this new device will mean I can connect it via Bluetooth to my cellphone, as I struggle hearing clearly over the phone,” she adds.
Another benefit is that the new device does not need batteries, says Mareli.
“Having this hearing aid device will mean I can listen to music and hear clearly.”
She concluded by saying that it was really difficult for her during the pandemic when everyone had their masks on, as she also relies on lip-reading.
With the help of her parents and great support from The Shed, R30,000 has already been raised towards Mareli’s hearing aid.
Her mother now pleads with the community of Dundee to help by, as said above, just donating R1 per person.
