Unlicensed firearm and ammunition seized in Wembezi
The man has been charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
Wembezi police recovered a 9mm pistol and nine rounds of ammunition during the early hours of Wednesday morning last week as a result of a tip-off. An arrest was made and a 45-year-old man was charged with possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
“Officers immediately located the place and conducted a search. A man was arrested after being found in possession of a pistol and ammunition. The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it has been used in other crimes,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.
The suspect appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court the same day.
