Arrests after high-speed chase with cops

Police ran a routine check and found that the vehicle had been hijacked in Hercules

A high-speed chase ensued on Saturday after police spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle on the R69 Vryheid / Louwsburg road. It is alleged that the vehicle was ‘flagged’ on various SAPS crime groups for an armed robbery at a well-known takeaway franchise in Pongola. When police tried to stop the car, the driver sped off and police followed in hot pursuit. They managed to block the suspects off in South Street (Vryheid).

There were two females and three males in the car. Police ran a routine check and found that the vehicle had been hijacked in Hercules. Upon searching the car, police found a plastic bag which had a large quantity of coins and a 9mm Browning firearm. According to police, the firearm was reported stolen in Hillbrow. The officers also found items of clothing that are believed to have been worn by the suspects during the armed robbery in Pongola. The five suspects were arrested and detained at Vryheid police station.
