Three people injured in N11 collision (UPDATE)

One driver told emergency personnel that it was difficult to tell which lanes were going up or down the pass.

It has been confirmed that three people sustained minor to moderate injuries, after two trucks and a bakkie collided on the N11 Majuba Pass on Wednesday (July 27).

According to Jan-Henk van Vuuren of Magenta Medical Services, three people were stabilised on scene and transported to hospital for further care.

One driver claimed it was difficult to tell which lanes were going up and which lanes were going down the pass. This is due to a ongoing resurfacing project in the pass, resulting in no painted lane divisions,” said van Vuuren.

He explained that motorists unfamiliar with the Majuba Pass could easily get confused and end up in oncoming traffic. However, the cause of the investigation is still unclear and remains subject to investigation.

Shortly after Wednesday’s collision, emergency services responded to another crash on the N11 – this time near the Utrecht turn-off. Van Vuuren said this incident involved a police vehicle.

Five police officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for further care.”

Motorists are urged to practice extreme caution when travelling along the route.
