Sunnyridge couple bound with shoelaces during robbery

The armed suspects fled the scene with jewellery, a laptop, a television and a gaming console.

Three armed suspects broke into a home on the night of July 15. The couple residing there are now said to be traumatised, after they were threatened with weapons and then tied up with shoelaces.

According to Lizzy Arumugam from Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications, the victim reported that he and his wife were fast asleep when they heard the bedroom door being kicked open.

…Three unknown men entered their room, brandishing a firearm and tying them up with shoelaces. The male victim was also struck on the forehead with the gun’s butt.”

The suspects then demanded money from the couple, who were also threatened with knives and other weapons. The house was then ransacked, with the suspects fleeing with jewellery, a laptop, a television set and a gaming console.

Arumugam said that following an investigation, it was discovered the suspects had entered the house through the living room window.

The suspects are still at large… Anyone with information about the case or the whereabouts of the suspects is urged to call Newcastle SAPS on 034 314 6166,” concluded Arumugam.
