Hot meals and warm jerseys at soup kitchen

Anyone who would like to sponsor them can contact Maritza Singh on 072 682 0599 or Yasmin Maistry on 072 056 5142.

Gracious Givers Soup Kitchen provides hot meals to those in need in Glencoe.
This soup kitchen started operating on Monday last week opposite the Glencoe Town Hall, where a group of women hand out food as well as blankets and jerseys to the needy.
“We see a lot of people and especially children without shelter or food, and we decided to lend a helping hand, especially in this freezing weather,” said one of the organisers, Maritza Singh. She added that they will be donating blankets next week to keep the cold at bay.
“We are willing to come and pick up blankets from those willing to donate them, as well as jerseys.
“People don’t even need to drop them off, as we are willing to drive to their homes and pick up the donations,” explained Singh.
She concluded by thanking all the sponsors and urging the community to also lend a hand where they can, in terms of sponsorship. “We are still in need of vegetables and non-perishable goods such as rice, beans and maize meal.”
Yazmin Maistry, who is also one of the organisers, added her thanks to the sponsors.
“This could not have been done easily without their support. The community needs to know that this soup kitchen is for everyone, so come get a meal. All are welcome and there are no restrictions regarding religion, race or gender,” she explained.
“We are very happy about this soup kitchen and I hope they get more sponsors so they can feed more people,” said resident Siphesihle Mdlalose as he enjoyed his meal.
The soup kitchen will be helping the community every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (opposite the Glencoe Town Hall) at 17:00.
Anyone who would like to sponsor them can contact Maritza Singh on 072 682 0599 or Yasmin Maistry on 072 056 5142.
