Foundation conducts career exhibition

’Yes, we know that job opportunities are scarce, but we push these learners to study because we want them to be job creators at the end of the day.''

A career exhibition was conducted in Nongoma for Grade 12 learners and those pupils who wish to upgrade their matric marks.

Nomnotho Nsele, the founder of a new foundation called ‘Langa lomnotho’, organised the exhibition. Nomnotho highlighted that the reason she started the foundation was because of her past experiences when still at school. She says she was not given enough knowledge on how to apply for varsity and the requirements she needed in order for her to enroll for tertiary education.

’’I thought to myself that I could help people from the same area so that they didn’t have to go through the same thing I did. I will try by all means to grant them the opportunity to have lots of time to explore all the options they have.’’

Nomnotho mentioned that the career exhibition was also about recognising one’s capabilities and skills, and also focusing on being an employer rather than an employee. Learners were also told what is currently ‘trending’ in terms of working skills and where one can fit into those skills.

Ayanda Kubheka, who also has a foundation called ‘Amasobode’, spoke to the learners. Their role at the exhibition was to assist those who want to upgrade their marks. ‘’Yes, we know that job opportunities are scarce, but we push these learners to study because we want them to be job creators at the end of the day. The knowledge they acquire from varsity will help them establish consultancy centres and different programmes within a specific field of study.’’

Kubheka explained that the importance of upgrading is getting a second chance to put you back on track and focus, as you need to be more disciplined.

Officials from the Durban University of Technology, colleges and Nongoma Municipality attended the exhibition and motivated the learners.
