Foundation launched for widows and children

We are not a foundation that is all about donating food parcels. We want to instead create projects and opportunities that will sustain people and communities in the long-run.’’

The Maphisa Foundation was launched at Black Horse Lodge on Friday, June 10.

Nonkululeko Maphisa, who is the founder and also the wife of AbaQulusi Mayor Mncedisi Maphisa, mentioned that the Maphisa Foundation caters for widows, children and child-headed homes.

The launch was graced by the presence of various honourable guests that included local and national leaders, business people and pastors who shared the stage to give speeches and also show their support for this initiative. Nonkululeko explained that they saw a need in communities where poverty is rife. As the foundation, their aim is to eradicate this situation in homes.

She said they are still looking for funding to help those in need. ‘’We are not a foundation that is all about donating food parcels. We want to instead create projects and opportunities that will sustain people and communities in the long-run.’’

She also explained that this is not a foundation that is politically inclined; they are simply there to help those in need and to effect positive change, regardless of people’s political affiliations. Nonkululeko takes pride in linking up with other hardworking people from different fields and professions in her foundation. They are: Miss Angel Shelembe, Andile Ntuli, Nomfundo Sosiba and Simangaye Nkanyane.

“As winter is upon us, we would like teachers to reach out so that we will be able to assist those learners who are in need of winter school uniforms,” continued Nonkululeko.
‘’I am grateful to my husband for supporting this vision I have and I am hopeful that this foundation will yield the desired results. I am guided and motivated by the good work of Prince MG Buthelezi, who is my grandfather and has done a lot to help the less fortunate over the years.’’
