Great support for Phiwe Mabaso tribute golf day

Close to 100 players converged in Estcourt to be part of the special day

Submitted by Estcourt Golf Club

The club played host to the second Phiwe Mabaso Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday.

Over 94 players – some from as far as Gauteng, Durban and surrounding areas – joined the Mabaso family in paying tribute to one of Estcourt’s golfing and business entrepreneurs.

With such a big field, the golfers played in an ‘AM’ and ‘PM’ session. The morning golfers braved the icy-cold conditions to tee off at 07:15.

The afternoon golfers happily enjoyed much more pleasant conditions on the course. On completion of the golfing activities, the players and visitors were treated to a gala evening of soul-stirring music, lots of fun and a splendid meal (courtesy of the tournament hosts, the Mabaso family, and the title sponsors, SAB breweries).

A debt of gratitude to Mrs Mabaso; sons Philani, Joe and Hlangan; and the entire Mabaso family for choosing the golf club as the venue to pay tribute to the late Baba Phiwe Mabaso who, in his playing days, was a very accomplished golfer himself. Long live your memory, Baba Phiwe.

Results:

Mr T Mkhuzangwe from the ‘Fat Cats’ won the bid at R8,000 for a voucher that was donated by Pick n Pay Estcourt.
