Botched hijacking by learner driver?

Ladysmith police are on the lookout for the suspects

An attempted carjacking took place last night (June 22) outside a business in Centenary Road, where three suspects attempted to hijack a vehicle.

The passenger managed to flee as the gunmen started getting into the car.

The driver was dragged out and had a gun rammed into his chest. He was ordered to get down on his knees and was pistol-whipped by one of the suspects.

The three men then tried to drive off in the vehicle. However, the driver couldn’t seem to get the car into reverse and instead drove forward. A few more attempts by the ‘learner driver’ to reverse also failed; he looked like he had no idea what he was doing, resulting in a comedy of errors. He repeatedly stalled the car, before finally jumping the pavement and smashing into the front wall of a business.

Realising that the driver could not drive, his two compatriots got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Soon afterwards, the would-be hijacker in the driver’s seat gave up on his attempt to steal the car and also fled on foot.

All the above can be clearly seen in a video that is circulating on WhatsApp groups.
