May – the month of charity, sport and culture

The learners were excited to take part in the competition during breaks

The month of May was quite a busy one at Vryheid High. We had sport, Charity Month, and culture competitions.
Our last sports fixture against Newcastle High School was one to remember. The children have been so happy to have a normal sport season for the first time in three years, and to end it on such a high note was special for the learners. For some, it was also their very last game. Netball results: U/14 won 21-4 and U/15 won 33-4. Boys’ hockey: the second team lost 0-2 and the first team lost 0-6. Girls’ hockey: the second team won 5-1 and the first team won 2-0. Rugby: the U/15 and U/16 combined team won 19-0. The chess team unfortunately lost 0-6.

The ACTS group held a ‘Friend Feud’ competition which was run throughout the month of May. Similar to ‘Family Feud’, the contestants were split into teams of five and questions related to the Bible were asked. 14 teams braved the competition, but only one team could be victorious and that was ‘Kentucky Fried Chicken’. The learners were excited to take part in the competition during breaks. They worked up their friends and made sure there was enough spirit.
