A dream come true for Drakensberg Secondary

Each speaker acknowledged and appreciated the “mammoth task” undertaken by the Divine Life Society

Stakeholders and well-wishers gathered in the newly-constructed Sivananda Drakensberg Secondary School (DSS) Hall on a rainy Sunday morning (April 10) to be part of the official opening of the hall.

Plans to build a school hall were put into motion when former Estcourt resident and ex-teacher at at the school, Swami Sahajananda, who is the spiritual leader of the Divine Life Society of South Africa visited DSS in 2004.

After much deliberation, the Divine Life Society agreed to, at first, fund the steel structure of the hall construction and then later agreed to fund the complete project.

He added that the hall would be put to good use to encourage curricular and co-curricular activities.

Education Department district Director Poppy Mokoena labelled the school hall as an innovative hub that will produce quality teaching and learning.

She said that due to severe budget cuts, the department had to place new projects on hold and such intervention was ‘cherished.’
