Second day of flooding in Ladysmith CBD

The low lying areas in the CBD are still closed off by Public Safety officials

Despite the rain having stopped falling in Ladysmith the river is still high and the CBD remains flooded.

The water level is slowly starting to go down from the high level it reached last night.

The K9 unit is patrolling the CBD with reports received of some shops being broken into last night despite the floods.

Flooding was caused by the high level of the river and the fact that several non-return valves on the storm water drainage system flowing into the Klipriver once again failed.

The CBD began flooding just after 7 am yesterday morning with river water back flowing into low-lying areas of the CBD as one-way storm water valves fail to close. Public Safety officers closed some Lyell Street in the CBD parts of it were completely underwater. This morning the water level was high.

Although not as bad as the last flood in March.
