New CPF and Youth Desk members get elected

The community is responsible for electing CPF members and the elected Youth Desk has to work hand-in-hand with the CPF, as they submit to them on a higher structure.

New members of the Glencoe Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Glencoe Youth Desk were elected in March.
The annual general meeting of the CPF was held at the Glencoe Town Hall by Captain Vilakazi.
Before the meeting started, Capt Vilakazi expressed his dissatisfaction with the low turnout.

After discussing the importance of having a sufficient number of people present, the meeting commenced. Vilakazi said that the Youth Desk and the CPF co-ordinator need to go through the Constitution and know what is expected of them.

He explained that: “Every five years, a new structure has to be elected, which is a directive from the province.” He elaborated that the main purpose of a CPF is to fight crime, and the community plays a vital role in fighting crime in their respective areas.
“The community is responsible for electing CPF members and the elected Youth Desk has to work hand-in-hand with the CPF, as they submit to them on a higher structure. Ward 3 has a high crime rate and that’s why it’s surprising that the community didn’t come in their numbers.”

A total of nine new Glencoe CPF members were elected, as well nine Glencoe Youth Desk members.
Dundee resident Sydney Ramsey said he was not happy about the elections, as not all community members of Glencoe were notified about the meeting.
