Learner bags runner-up prize in Dubai –

St Dominics Newcastle learner, Dia Singh (16) represented her school, town, province and country in Dubai in March. She was invited to showcase her revolutionary PIP project at the HP Steam Expo Innovation Award at Dubai’s Silicon Oasis.

At the expo, Dia demonstrated that plastic can be used instead of fossil fuels to incinerate plastic waste, lessening the reliance on fossil fuel and natural gas, and also reducing plastic waste otherwise destined for the dump.

Dia’s mother, Narina said the so-called plasticator was described by judges as ‘addressing a contemporary issue through creative and novel research’.

Since receiving the runner-up prize, Dia has been featured in numerous social media posts, and was also invited for an interview on national television.
