Term ends on sporting and mathematical high

Sarel Cilliers is hosting a charity drive in support of the local SPCA and we are collecting items that can be resold in the SPCA shops.

Sarel Cilliers held rugby trials for the KZN selections last week. Luckily the rain let up and the boys were able to play in favourable conditions. Congratulations to Afika Mathebula, Leonard Kruger, Aphelele Hlongwane, Samkelo Mbuyisa, Unathi Hadebe, Ntando Makhaya and Thabiso Xulu from the first team for making it through to the next selection round for the UKZN CD side. These players will test out again next term. The school wishes you all the best!
Congratulations to Simphiwe Zuma for being selected for the UKZN Country Districts U/16 Boys’ Hockey Team and to Siyanda Sibisi for being selected for the UKZN Country Districts U/16 Girls’ Hockey Team. Simphiwe is in Grade 9 and Siyanda in Grade 10, so we are very excited to have such young talent representing Sarel Cilliers in the UKZN CD sides.

Well done, Maths boffins! We know how difficult the Olympiads are!
The health and safety of all learners is of paramount importance at Sarel Cilliers High School, and we endeavour to do the very best to take care of and provide academic and emotional support to each and every one of our students. On Tuesday morning last week, the learners were addressed by several officials from the Department of Basic Education (DBE), Social Services and the SAPS. Each speaker delivered a pertinent message about bullying and gender-based violence. Each student then had the opportunity to complete a survey issued by members of the DBE to ascertain if the students had issues of concern or needed support, which will then be provided next term. The school is very proud to support this initiative and hopes it will provide the necessary support to those students who need it. We hope that, by addressing such issues, the learners will be aware that they have a comprehensive support system available to them and that the school is here to support and assist them. The school has a very strict anti-bullying policy and close physical contact on school premises is not allowed under any circumstances, unless in a medical emergency. Contravention of this policy will be dealt with most severely.
School will resume on April 5. Sarel Cilliers is hosting a charity drive in support of the local SPCA and we are collecting items that can be resold in the SPCA shops. The students and community are encouraged to donate books, magazines, clothing, bric-a-brac, linen, toys and basically anything that is unwanted. It’s time to clean out those cupboards and donate to a good cause. Goods can be sent with learners or dropped off at the school office.
