ANC accuses DA of corruption

Council meeting has parties accusing each other of acting illegally

The ANC have accused the DA of corruption… At a media briefing held on Friday, March 11, ANC regional secretary Bonga Hlomuka said they are very disappointed in the DA.

“The DA has been known to be the party that is against corruption. However, what we see now is very disappointing, as they are siding with the IFP and holding meetings illegally,” said Hlomuka.

He was referring to a special council meeting which was held on Monday, February 28. According to the ANC, the meeting was illegal.

They raised the issue of councillors not receiving the agenda on time and also that they received the notice without the agenda.

Hlomuka says the ANC councillors left the meeting because they were not happy about the explanation they got from both the mayor and the speaker.

In response to the allegations, the DA’s Cllr Thys Janse van Rensburg said the ANC caucus illegally walked out of the meeting.

“I myself informed the meeting of the timestamps and that the meeting was indeed called in accordance with the standing rules. The ANC caucus thus acted illegally by walking out without getting permission from the speaker, as required by the standing rules in clause 12.1 (c),” said the DA councillor.
