The annual DJ Rally, a regularity trial for motorcycles made before the end of 1936, arrived in town on Friday afternoon.

Newcastle is a regular stop-over point for the rally, which runs between Durban and Johannesburg. Excitement among participants and locals was high, especially considering the 2021 run was cancelled due to Covid-19 regulations.

Motorcycles started arriving in from Durban on Friday (March 11) and departed for Johannesburg early on Saturday morning (March 12).

Many residents took the opportunity to see the classic motorcycles in action, including vintage BSA, AJS, Sunbeam, Norton, OK Supreme and Ariel machines.
