Shooter receives dialysis after ‘road rage’ incident

They all followed in hot pursuit and ‘cornered’ the driver at the Dialysis Centre

What seemed like a normal Monday turned into a scene from a violent action movie as shocked residents witnessed a shooting on the corner of Republiek and Utrecht streets. According to eyewitnesses, two motorists – one driving a Hilux bakkie and the other a red Volkswagen Golf – had an altercation over bad driving. Described as pure and simple ‘road rage’, the incident culminated in the driver of the Golf pulling out a gun and firing shots at the other driver. The shooter then sped off in the direction of the Vryheid Dialysis Centre. Other eyewitnesses say there were schoolchildren outside at the scene of the shooting and they had to quickly get them out of harm’s way. The driver of the Hilux ‘disappeared’ from the scene. Resident Ken Taylor saw what happened and gave chase while informing security companies, as well as the police. They all followed in hot pursuit and ‘cornered’ the driver at the Dialysis Centre, but he had already entered the premises. It was said that police had to wait four hours while the driver underwent dialysis before they could question him. Since it is a sterile area, police officers were issued with PPE clothing before entering the centre. Hours later, after his dialysis, the driver was accompanied by SAPS officers to the police station. No one was injured in the shooting.
