DUNDEE KZN: SONA 2022 is a disappointment

After watching SONA2022, I was truly convinced that our president has his agenda, and the ordinary South African citizens form no part in his plans.

I had a chance to watch SONA2022. To say I was disappointed would be just a formal way of expressing how I felt before switching off the television. I wasted my time watching SONA2022. Where is our country heading? Watching SONA on Thursday I had not many expectations, to be honest, but I was hoping the president would have a different approach when it comes to the issue of jobs creation and opportunities. In 2018 we were promised a million jobs, in 2019; the president promised 1 million jobs for the youth, in 2020; we were promised 800 000 jobs. The president said to have big plans when it comes to job creation in 2021 and 2022; we are told that government is not responsible for jobs creation.
After watching SONA2022, I was truly convinced that our president has his agenda, and the ordinary South African citizens form no part in his plans. Hence he decided to extend the social relief distress grant as it seems that is the only thing he can offer. I think it is only fair to say that, the president has failed ordinary South African citizens, especially the youth. Whether you might think I’m ignorant, ungrateful, or whatever but I seriously think we need a change before it is too late. 28 years down the line, we still hoping and waiting for a better life. The real state of our country is disappointing. At least, he said something positive when he encouraged us to buy locally made clothes and products.
I always wonder why our government turns a blind eye to the state of our education in South Africa, something needs to be done as soon as possible. Even the president in his address just gave a summary concerning our education system. The department of higher education to be specific, is in crisis. As we speak, thousands of students are frustrated and depressed due to many issues, with financial exclusion being on top of the list. What is being done? We need free education in our lifetime!
Do people who work at Home affairs appreciate their jobs? What is happening with that department? In my entire life I have never stood in a queue for more than 5 hours, but last week it happened. Worse and the annoying part; is you stand in the long queue for hours, only to be told by a rude home affairs employee with no manners that the system is offline before they even resume working for the day. What I experienced was disgusting. I visited two different towns on the same day, only to find that the system is offline. For people to get their documents, must suffer the way they are suffering when visiting the department of Home affairs? No ways! some people need to be held accountable.
Enough about SONA2022, our government, and the experience I had at the Department of Home of Affairs. I would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s month. Love is beautiful. Let us be encouraged to love and to take care of each other and continue the fight against Gender-Based Violence. Maya Angelou once said, “We are here to love each other. That is why you are alive. That is what life is for”.
