Two charged with District Speaker’s murder

The suspects will appear in court again on February 14, for bail information and appointing of attorneys.

Two charged with District Speaker’s murder:

Two people have been charged with the murder of Amajuba District Speaker, Reginald Ndima.

Mhlonishwa Sokhulu (43) and Sbusiso Chocolo (29) appeared in the Newcastle Magistrates Court yesterday (February 7), according to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority.

The statement is attributed to Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the Regional Spokesperson for the Directors of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to sources, the two suspects were arrested over the weekend. The arrests follow the gunning down of Ndima at his Ncandu Park home on January 29.

Ramkisson-Kara said the matter was postponed to February 14 for bail information and appointing of attorneys for the accused.

During the memorial service of the late Cllr Ndima, the Mayor of Newcastle, Cllr Xolani Dube said:

“Cllr Ndima was a man of integrity, a gem that stood his ground even in difficult situations. As the Speaker of Council, he served the community of Amajuba wholeheartedly.”
