Fuel price set to increase

The main reason is crude oil prices, says the department

Consumers will have to dig deeper into their pockets, as the price of petrol is set to increase at midnight.

The Minister of Mineral Resources & Energy, Gwede Mantashe, announced the adjustment of fuel prices that will come into effect from tomorrow (Wednesday, February 2).

Consumers are advised to take note of the following changes:

Petrol is set to increase by 53 cents a litre, diesel is set to rise by 79.84 cents a litre, while the price of illuminating paraffin will go up by 101 cents a litre.

According to a statement from the Department of Mineral Resources & Energy, South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors. International factors include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set at an international level, including importation costs.
