Ladysmith Public Safety launch search for vicious pit-bull

The dog is dangerous and people should not go near it - contact Public Safety on 036 631 1777 if the dog is spotted

A viral video and at least three confirmed attacks by one, possibly two, pit-bulls in Ladysmith has Public Safety officers conducting a search for the dog.

A viral video showing a man being seriously mauled by the dogs has been shared extensively. It is believed that the man was rushed to hospital.

PR Councillor Thabisile Njoko, who lives in Ward 20, stated that she alerted Public Safety, police and the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) about the matter two weeks ago. She hopes that the dog is found soon, as there are lots of school-going children in the area and the safety of the community comes first. She pleads with the AACL to please intervene, as league workers evidently went out twice but failed to find the pit-bull.

According to Cllr Abbas Warasally: “Public Safety officers are in the area, hunting the dog.” Warasally appeals to the community to be vigilant in the area and call Public Safety immediately if they see the dog. He furthermore states that the dog is dangerous and people must not go near it.

For the last two days, Public Safety officers have been patrolling the Centenary Road area and the lower end of Acaciavale, where the first attack took place. Numerous other attacks by the dogs have been confirmed.

A third attack yesterday morning (January 24) took place in Coleus Drive.

It is unconfirmed but believed that at least one dog (a brown one) has been killed by community members who were hunting the dogs on Monday.

Coleus Drive resident Davendren Kistadu confirmed seeing the black-and-white pit-bull (the dog in the viral video) in the area a day ago.

The black-and-white pit-bull is still at large.
