Abducted woman found in shallow grave

Vigilante justice is not condoned, say police

34-year-old Thokozile Makhowane left home with her boyfriend and never returned on November 14. The matter was reported to police and a case of abduction was opened at Besters police station.

Detectives arrested the 44-year-old man she was last seen with and he was released by the court due to insufficient evidence. The investigating officer continued with the investigation while keeping a close eye on the man.

On Monday night, December 6, at about 21:00, a group of people confronted the man at his residence and demanded answers. He was severely assaulted until he showed them where he had buried Thokozile’s body.

The semi-decomposed body was found in a shallow grave in Bramhoea, Besters area.

The police intervened and did their best to rescue the man from the angry mob. He sustained multiple wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Besters detectives are investigating an inquest and a case of murder. The public is advised not to take the law into their own hands, but to always call the police for assistance.

Those found to be involved in the killing of the man will face the full might of the law. They will be arrested and charged accordingly.
