Acting Municipal Manager retracts his resignation

Acting Municipal Manager, Vish Govender, has retracted his resignation.

Earlier this week, Govender handed in his resignation to the Newcastle Municipality.

At the time, he said he was awaiting a meeting of council and the troika to accept it. Govender’s term as acting MM has been lauded by staff and residents.

In the past year, they say they have enjoyed accelerated community service, proper consequence management and more.

Head of Communications for the municipality, Mlungisi Khumalo confirmed this morning that Govender would be retaining his post.

Commenting on his decision, Govender said:

“Following a meeting with troika, I have reconsidered my decision. Hence I will serve the people of Newcastle and the current leadership in ensuring service delivery is our key mandate.”
