VRYHEID KZN: Local mountain bikers claim first two spots in virtual challenge

There are also certain ‘tricks of the trade’ that one has to keep in mind...

The Outdoor Enthusiast Virtual Challenge has kicked off again this year with race number one out of six ‘virtual challenges’ that take place throughout the year. Each challenge is a three-day stage race starting on a Friday and ending on a Sunday. Each challenge is different… For example, sometimes the challenge is to be completed over a certain time limit and sometimes the ride has to have a certain climb, meaning lots of uphill portions. There are also certain ‘tricks of the trade’ that one has to keep in mind… For example, keeping the pace of the first day controlled so that there is enough energy left in the legs for day two, and of course for day three as well. Day two is usually the big challenge, because it is the longest and toughest ride.

Congratulations to sisters Mariska de Villiers and Suzette Leach, along with Morné Strauss, for completing the first Outdoor Enthusiast Challenge this year in an excellent time. The overall rankings are as follows: Morné Strauss and Suzette Leach – first; Mariska de Villiers shares second position with another entrant.
