VRYHEID KZN: No foul play suspected in substation fire

The municipality refutes the allegations that the fire was due to poor maintenance

A fire broke out at AbaQulusi Municipality’s main substation in Mason Street last night (November 11), which left the entire town in complete darkness, including Bhekuzulu and Lakeside. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no foul play is suspected at this stage. Electricity was restored at approximately 03:00 this morning (November 12). There seems to be enough capacity at the substation to ensure that the electricity supply will not be interrupted as a result of the fire. However, there will be periodic outages in certain areas while electricians are testing the cables and equipment for possible fire damage. The municipality refutes the allegations that the fire was due to poor maintenance, since this is the main substation and weekly maintenance is conducted.
