NEWCASTLE KZN: Provincial KFC Mini-Cricket is back for the 2021/22 season

There is palpable excitement about returning to the field and playing the game that everyone enjoys.

The annual KFC Mini-Cricket provincial seminar takes place at the KwaZulu-Natal Coastal Cricket Union’s Hollywood Bets Kingsmead Stadium today (October 23), continuing the strong start to the season for the country’s leading cricket development programme.

Local volunteers and co-ordinators are expected to be in attendance.

In a recent statement, Clifford Sihlezana of Intune Communications said the annual seminars are critical in bringing together all of the programme’s volunteers, administrators, and key stakeholders to strategise for the upcoming season and reflect on the previous season’s successes and challenges.

One of the event’s guest speakers is ex-Proteas player and Dolphins legend, Robbie Frylink, who said KFC Mini-Cricket is important for encouraging children of all backgrounds to play and fall in love with the sport, and encourages them to be physically active.

These seminars play an important role in ensuring the KFC Mini-Cricket season runs smoothly, because this is where the planning takes place. I am proud to have spoken to some of the volunteer coaches here, who selflessly spend hours coaching and shaping the young kids to be the best they can be in the future.”

The statement further explained how the union was able to ensure the venue follows all Covid-19 safety protocols to minimise the spread of the virus, thanks in part to a limited number of delegates and guests.

Appropriately, the theme for this year’s KFC Mini-Cricket festival is ‘imvuselelo’, translated as ‘recovery’.

The KFC Mini-Cricket programme has given everyone involved renewed hope for South Africa’s young cricket fans ahead of the 2021/22 season.”

With the 2021/22 season marking a significant milestone for KFC, as it enters its 12th year as a sponsor and partner of Cricket South Africa for the mini-cricket programme, the franchise is also celebrating its 50th year in South Africa.

KFC CSI Manager, Andre Ferreira Nel said there was no better to way to commemorate the birthday milestone than recognising the incredible volunteer coaches and co-ordinators.

These inspiring individuals exemplify everything that is great about South Africa. Their selfless dedication enables the programme to be all-inclusive and teach the kids important life skills, while they get active in a fun and healthy way by participating in a sport they enjoy. They champion the spirit of community by keeping the Mini-Cricket flame alive…” he stated.
