VRYHEID KZN: Salvation Army builds house for elderly citizen in need

A new house has since been built for the appreciative 'gogo' and her family.

In July, the Salvation Army identified an elderly grandmother by the name of maJiyane, who was living in a house that was in a terrible condition with 16 other family members. The ‘gogo’ resides in the area of Esilweni (under AbaQulusi Local Municipality).

A new house has since been built for the appreciative ‘gogo’ and her family. A member of the Salvation Army in AbaQulusi commented that they were really pleased that the project of building a house for the old granny progressed so speedily. A major intervention by the Department of Transport saw a water supply being connected to the house. Correctional Services were also on board, as the building was done by Amabanjwa (detainees). AbaQulusi Local Municipality supplied a JoJo tank, and local businesses donated building materials.

“Praise the Lord, granny’s house is completed. The tiles were fitted last weekend, and the outside and inside is painted. Touch-ups and door fitting will be done too,” say the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army has been donating food parcels to the needy in different communities, as well as donating building blocks and cement to households in need of repair. “If we see that the house is not badly damaged, we buy cement for them to fix where necessary. We have done this for 45 families, where a certain company has delivered cement and building blocks to do patch-ups,” Mkhuliseli Mhlongo concluded.
