MEC Mshengu pointed out that since 2019, his office has received a number of reports and complaints about gangs in Ezakheni schools, namely Ekukhuleni, Esakhelwe and Qophindlela.

“Recently, a learner brutally assaulted another learner. Some children do not attend school because they belong to different gangs and they fear for their lives. Those who belong to gangs should immediately leave school, because the department will not hesitate to expel them if they do anything that defies the school’s Code of Conduct,” said the MEC.

Among the stakeholders present at the meeting were SAPS, Department of Social Development, Alfred Duma Mayor Vincent Madlala, Uthukela District Director P Mokoena, Cllr S Dlungwane and Cllr TP Shabalala.
