VRYHEID KZN: Vryheid Rugby Club nears 22m line with 100th birthday celebrations

Vryheid Rugby Club is currently hosting a Touch Rugby Tournament, with teams playing on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. A team comprises 10 players, of which seven are on the field and three on the sidelines. Even though the idea was for about 16 teams to enter, this unfortunately did not materialise due to lack of interest. Furthermore, the original plan was to have a ‘pool A’ with eight teams and a ‘pool B’ with eight teams, playing four games each. The four winners in pool A would then have played against the four winners from pool B. The four winning teams of those matches would’ve contested the semi-finals, with the two winning teams playing in the final on October 30, when it is also the reunion and celebration of the club’s 100th birthday. Fortunately, there will still be two teams playing the final on the day of the reunion. Next year, the organisers would like to go big with the Touch Rugby Tournament by getting sponsors on board with huge prizes for the winning teams. They would like to involve neighbouring towns in the tournament and if they can get a few women’s teams to participate in the tournament, they will accommodate them as well. Depending on the age groups entering the tournament, it could be split into different divisions. During the day of the reunion (October 30), three to four rugby games will be played and kick-off starts at about 11:00. Anyone who has played for the club or who was part of the club at some stage is welcome to join on the day.
