ESTCOURT KZN: Turning the tide across South Africa

Partnering to provide 750 large food parcels, the teams will be travelling to areas across South Africa and this time it was the turn of Loskop residents

Two corporates and one humanitarian organisation are aiming to bring hope and relief to thousands of people across the country and position themselves as a ‘force for good’.

On September 8, the community of Loskop watched in awe as a convoy of marked vehicles – transporting representatives from Absa, Woolworths and the Gift of the Givers Foundation – made their way through the gravel roads into deep rural areas.

Partnering to provide 750 large food parcels, the teams will be travelling to areas across South Africa and this time it was the turn of Loskop residents.

Gift of the Givers Estcourt community liaison Jaaved Khan said the foundation had identified the community of Loskop after the closure of two factories in Estcourt caused widespread unemployment. It is believed that close to 1000 people lost their jobs after Evowood (formerly Masonite) and Clover closed down.

In addition, most of the residents in the area rely on social grants and could definitely do with a boost for the grocery cupboards.

The food parcels were handed out to waiting recipients in Rosedale, at the Amahlubi Community Centre and at the residence of Nkosi MJ Radebe of the Amahlubi.

Containing non-perishable items as well as fresh produce, the food parcels were gratefully accepted by the residents.
