DUNDEE KZN: APL season casts off with Breakwaters setting the pace

The next APL fixture is the Mohamed Midas League 2, which takes place on September 12 at Richgate Park

Breakwaters Angling Club is the current pace-setter for the season.

During the Mohamed Midas League 1 on August 22, which was met with enthusiasm and palpable excitement by affiliates of the Angling Professional League (APL), the catches proved to be few and far between. Breakwaters’ Monty Slabbert was one of the standout anglers.

He scored nine individual points to claim the title of ‘angler of the day’, the purple and the orange caps, plus an outright trophy and R200 in cash, which helped Breakwaters to a total of 41 points for the day.

The club now tops the league standings. Dannhauser AC ended second on 21 points, followed by Challengers AC on nine points, Stillwaters AC on five points, and Glencoe AC on 4 points. This result mirrors the current league log.

Early title contenders are Sikander Amod of Breakwaters (Heaviest Scaled Fish for a carp weighing 2,92 kilograms, and a rare species prize for a kurper of 1,14kg), Keavay Dheena of Glencoe (Junior Angler of the Year with three individual points), Ronnie Rampersadh of Breakwaters (Senior Angler of the Year with eight individual points), and Monty Slabbert of Breakwaters in the race to the coveted ‘Angler of the Year’ title.

The next APL fixture is the Mohamed Midas League 2, which takes place on September 12 at Richgate Park – affiliation to angling clubs is currently open.
