Provincial Correctional Services spokesperson, Thulani Mdluli, said the pair was from Waterval Correctional Centre in Utrecth. He said the men were appearing on further charges.

He said it is alleged that the Nsibanyoni and Khanye used a firearm to make their escape and drove off in a hi-jacked Correctional Services state vehicle, taking hostage a female correctional officer.

The vehicle was later recovered on the Dundee/ Dannhauser road with the officer still inside the vehicle. The two then fled on foot.

Mr Mdluli warned that the men are very dangerous and are being charged, among other things, for kidnapping and murder.
