VRYHEID KZN: ‘Illegal’ tractor roaming around town

This contractor was appointed by AbaQulusi Local Municipality

The Vryheid Herald has received a tip-off that a local contractor’s tractor / trailer does not have the necessary licensing while making use of public roads and cutting grass around Vryheid. This contractor was appointed by AbaQulusi Local Municipality, so the Herald enquired about the situation from Municipal Manager Bonga Ntanzi. “We would like to note the tip-off and we will attend to it urgently. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as it indicates that the contractor may have falsified their documents at the time of appointment or has neglected procedures after being appointed. When a contractor is appointed, they present all necessary documents as proof that their vehicles are indeed in a required condition. Therefore, this will be investigated right away. It does not matter if the vehicles are rendering services for the municipality; if they are in contravention of the rules and regulations of the road, Public Safety deals with it swiftly. We have in the past impounded some of the vehicles belonging to municipal contractors because they were not roadworthy. This will be no different,” Ntanzi concluded.
