VRYHEID KZN: Blood donations decline in the cold

The SANBS will be in Vryheid on the following dates: August 21 at PnP from 09:00 until 13:00; August 28 at Pnp from 09:00 until 13:00.

The cold weather this past weekend seems to have even had an impact on blood donations! According to the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), only 59 units were collected at the most recent blood drive. Donor relations practitioner Shavani Sewpaul says that even though there was a decline in blood donations, they are still very grateful and hopeful that donors will come in numbers to donate at the next drive.

One unit of blood can save up to three lives and it only takes 30 minutes, four times a year.

To become a blood donor, you must:
– Be between the ages of 16 and 75 years old;
– Weigh 50kg or more;
– Be in good health;
– Lead a healthy lifestyle;
– Consider your blood safe for transfusion to a patient;
– Commit to donating blood regularly.

The SANBS will be in Vryheid on the following dates:
August 21 at PnP from 09:00 until 13:00;
August 28 at Pnp from 09:00 until 13:00.
