DUNDEE : Top bull sold for one and a half million

The Up George Production Sale has a history of delivering top prices - some years ago, the top bull was sold for R1.8 million.

The 23rd annual Up George Bonsmara Production Sale was held last month under Level 4 Covid-19 restrictions, but this did not stop the sale from being another huge success for the area’s agricultural sector. Held in the Elandslaagte/Wasbank area, the sale attracted numerous bidders (online).

The top bull was sold for R1.5 million to Eloff Muller of Tambaraine Bonsmara of the Mossel Bay area in the Western Cape. The Mullers also bought the top cow and calf for R300,000. Derek and Tutu Ralfe of the Up George Farm said they are ‘truly grateful to all buyers, under bidders and supporters for your enormous contribution to the success of the Up George Production Sale 2021’.

“Special thanks to AAM Livestock Agents, whose passion, hard work and dedication never goes unnoticed, and is greatly appreciated. It is an honour and privilege to have Brandon Leer conduct the auction. His professionalism, guidance and friendship is truly appreciated by all. To our community and family, we are indebted to you all for your unwavering help, commitment and contribution to the success of the sale,” Mrs Ralfe told the Courier, adding that they were thankful to Eloff Muller for showing confidence in Up George Genetics. “We wish you great success in the Bonsmara industry.
