Ladysmith KZN: Support the flea market stalls on Saturday mornings

The number of stalls is growing and more residents are encouraged to join

Local residents gather every Saturday morning outside the shops at 23 Francis Road to host a flea market day. The chilly weather doesn’t seem to be a deterrent to either the stallholders or the zealous shoppers who want to pick up a bargain or two. The stalls are set up by 08:00 and the market wraps up at around 13:00.

If you’re feeling like a delicious homemade hamburger with fried onions and extra sauce, or sugary cupcakes / pancakes, head on over to the morning market this coming weekend (August 21). The number of stalls is growing and more residents are encouraged to join.

Romerandh Narain, who is from Estcourt, travels every Saturday morning to Ladysmith to set up his stall at the market. He offers fresh produce and this coming weekend will be bringing his friend, who specialises in name-brand perfumes. And don’t forget the handmade items that Maria Weideman lovingly crochets. She has crocheted dolls for little girls that are absolutely adorable and would make for a great present.

One stallholder commented that the main aim of this initiative is to promote local co-operatives, as well as provide a platform for them to showcase their talents and skills in the form of an exhibition, while also generating an income.
