NEWCASTLE KZN: How you can avoid becoming a robbery victim

Consider using cell phone banking, internet transfers, or ATMs to conduct your banking.

Residents should avoid keeping or transporting large sums of money, lest they become victims of crime.

Lizzy Arumugam, from the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Office, has urged residents to rather use cellphone banking, internet transfers or automatic teller machines (ATMs) to make payments. This will assist the police in reducing robbery incidents.

“[Residents] should consider lower-risk options, such as carrying as little cash as possible…” she added.

To safeguard yourself against crime, Arumugam advises residents carry as little cash as possible and consult with their banking services provider for alternative ways to settle accounts and pay bills.
