VRYHEID KZN: Farewell and award ceremony for JOC members

In essence; this ceremony is in accordance with Makura's words... Indeed, we are showcasing our achievements and our heroes. Thank you.

Municipal manager’s speech to honour the Joint Operations Committee (JOC) and also police officers as they retire:

Ladies and gentlemen, we have had quite a challenging year having to deal with a new Covid-19 variant that continues to threaten our health and our livelihoods. While we were fighting this virus, ensuring that we save lives and encouraging people to vaccinate, our efforts were further disrupted by the recent riots and looting. With that being said, this JOC has put in tremendous efforts in ensuring that our citizens and business people adhere to the regulations as set out by government. The success of this JOC is attributed to the joint efforts by all of you; all government institutions (including our social partners). You all have done an amazing job. We may have moved to Alert Level 3, but that does not mean the battle has been won. We still need to continue with the fight and while we do that, we must appreciate and honour some of our team members who have been an integral part of this JOC’s success in curbing the spread of Covid-19. As the JOC, we would like to extend our greatest gratitude to the following members:

1. Lt Col BM Zwane – served the SAPS for 36 years;

2. Col BB Ndlovu – served the SAPS for 38 years;

3. Lt Col ME Zungu – served SAPS Crime Intelligence for 38 years;

4. CEO Vryheid District Hospital, Ms NF Ngema – served the Department of Health for 32 years.

As you are all going on retirement, the JOC leadership, together with all our members and social partners, felt that we needed to express our appreciation by honouring you for all the sterling years of service in the public sector. As the saying goes, “Umuntu ubongwa esaphila”. Just like Moky Makura wrote in his book entitled ‘Africa’s Greatest Entrepreneurs’: “As Africans, we often hesitate to tell our own positive stories, yet if we don’t remember and record our past, if we don’t highlight our achievements, showcase our heroes and take responsibility for the future image of Africa, nobody else will. I believe it is our responsibility”. In essence; this ceremony is in accordance with Makura’s words… Indeed, we are showcasing our achievements and our heroes. Thank you.
