ESTCOURT KZN: Jacob Zuma Foundation dismisses claims of legal team visit
The former president has spent a week behind bars at the Estcourt Correctional Centre
The Jacob Zuma Foundation has dismissed claims that a legal team, headed by advocate Dali Mpofu, was scheduled to visit former president Jacob Zuma at the Estcourt Correctional Centre in McFarlane Street today (July 14).
Reports had surfaced that the team would be consulting with the former president, allegedly about his release.
The foundation has since dismissed the claims, saying: ‘The Foundation has received spurious reports about some supposed delegation that claims to have visited President Zuma at the Prison in Escourt (sic) today. All such reports must be dismissed as fake. President Zuma is committed to the Rescission application at the ConCourt.
The former president has spent a week behind bars at the Estcourt Correctional Centre after being handed down a 15-month sentence by the Constitutional Court for contempt of court.
There is a dense presence of armed Correctional Service guards stationed at the intersection leading to the correctional centre; the road to the facility’s entrance is also blocked.
