Ladysmith KZN: Some residents still left in the dark, as power is not restored to certain areas

Because of the electrical issues, some residents have been without water as well

The power outage in many parts of Ladysmith has been a nightmare for residents, who are now up in arms, as they have been left with no lights for many days.

The issues started on Wednesday (June 16), with municipal electricians working in the problem areas.

Most places have had their power restored, however, a few streets remain without power. In some places, due to the electrical issues, residents have been left without water as well due to the pumps not functioning.

Alfred Duma Local Municipality released the following message on Friday regarding the electrical issues facing the Technical & Infrastructural Services of the municipality…

“On June 16, 2021, the Department of Technical & Infrastructural Services – Electrical Engineering Services experienced multiple electrical faults within the electrical system. The faults were caused by multiple medium voltage cable failures. This led to areas within Ladysmith town being without electricity.

“The areas that were affected were Modelkloof, Danskraal Industrial Area, Mkhamba, Observation Hill, Hospital Park and Diamana Road. At this stage, it is not known when the power will be restored to the areas that are still affected.”

When the municipality was approached for comment today (June 19), no response was received from them.
