Ladysmith KZN: Team of diamond inspectors expected at KwaHlathi soon

The inspectors will determine whether diamonds have been found

A team of inspectors delegated by KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala is expected to arrive at the site of the KwaHlathi ‘diamond rush’ later today (June 14) or tomorrow to begin their inspection. The inspectors will determine whether diamonds have in fact been found.

This comes after the premier yesterday issued a statement that people should cease their operations and vacate the site to allow for a proper inspection.

A team from the Department of Minerals & Energy will include enforcement and compliance units. Then there will also be teams from the Council for Mineral Technology (Mintek) and the Council for Geoscience (GSCS). The Mintek and GSCS teams will focus on establishing what the items are that have been discovered at KwaHlathi.
