VRYHEID KZN: Rugby Club exchanges balls for golf clubs

The prizes were definitely a huge attraction and encouragement for the players

The golf course was buzzing with players and sponsors on Saturday, when Vryheid Rugby Club held their first official golf day. The rugby club was targeted by vandals recently, and electrical cables were stolen, while other cables were damaged. Since the rugby season has started and winter is fast approaching, the stolen cables created a problem for practice sessions at night. The rugby club will use the money raised by the golf day to repair the floodlights on the field. A total of 75 players entered the sponsored golf day, which is the biggest turnout of players in a very long time. Approximately R20,000 was raised.

The results are as follows: First place

– B van Eden and W van Deventer. Second place

– V Kriel and J Malan. Third place

– A Mbatha and G Dlamini. Nearest the pin

– V Kriel on hole no. 7. Longest drive

– R van Heerden.

The prizes were definitely a huge attraction and encouragement for the players. The first place winners walked away with a four-night stay for 10 people at Ponta do Auro in Mozambique and a Rooibaard hamper. The second place winners received a two-night stay for four people at Umziki Chalets in Mkuze, while the third place winners received a two-night stay for six people at Madaka. Both second and third place winners each received a Rooibaard hamper as well. The day turned out to be a roaring success and an excellent follow-up to last week’s win over Sentraal. The Vryheid Rugby Club players and committee would like to thank all the sponsors and everyone who assisted on the day.
