Ichthus learners scoop silver at Science Expo

The learners thanked their teachers and parents who assisted and guided them throughout the year

The Grade seven class of Ichthus managed once again to all bring home silver medals from the Northern Natal Regional Expo in Ladysmith.
The Grade seven learners were in high spirits when the school combi left Ladysmith on Friday after the Science Expo. The learners thanked their teachers and parents who assisted and guided them throughout the year.
The projects are:
D.I.Y. Solar Heater by Drémar Jacobs and Andrew Tiley. They built a sun heater and tested it to find out how many °C it is able to heat up a room.
Saving Genetic Generations by Preston Caldecott and Alwande Mkhize. They tested a self made support system that dairy cows can wear to prevent the ligaments in the cow’s udder from tearing.
Saving with your Geyser by Quintin Kriel and André Spies. They made people aware that a 55°C setting on their geysers is an optimum situation to have sufficient hot water and to save electricity.
K’lometres for Lights by MacGreiger Stein and Olwethu Hadebe. They tested a situation where you charge an extra 12volt car battery while you drive to use as a source of energy during load shedding times.
The principal of Ichthus, Mrs Helena Viljoen, congratulated the teachers and learners for the good scientific research that was conducted.
SACSSA Cricket tour – July 2015
During the July holidays, Preston Caldecott took part in the SACSSA Lowveld cricket tour in White River. The SACSSA team played against various cricket teams at schools and colleges in the area. They also enjoyed a game drive in the Kruger National Park.
The u/13 SACSSA team won 2 matches, lost 1 (first time in 3 years that the u/13 SACSSA team has lost a match) and the final game was rained out.
This tour was a wonderful opportunity for all cricket players to play together in a team and also to test their strength against players from other schools. Congratulations Preston!
To God be the Glory!
